Pro tip: a firefighter in Philly told me my car top tool box was a bad idea
He said if we ever had to cut the roof for a rescue, that steel box would send metal shards flying at the crew. I swapped it out for a soft-sided bag the next day. What's the dumbest safety thing you've had pointed out to you?

My old truck had a full headache rack behind the cab. A mechanic friend saw it and just asked, "What happens if you get rear ended and that thing comes through the back window?" I never thought of it becoming a giant metal spear. Sold it the following week and just use the bed now.

Honestly that "giant metal spear" line from your mechanic friend is scary accurate. My buddy had a similar rack on his work truck and got tapped at a red light, not even a hard hit. The whole thing bent forward and cracked his back glass like a spiderweb. Ngl @abby675, it made me look at those things totally different now. He ended up taking his off too, just uses tie-downs in the bed like you said.
