My foreman in Tacoma caught me over-tightening the roller guide bolts on a 3100 last month, and the vibration noise stopped completely.

He said 'you're crushing the bushing, it needs to float a little' and now I use a torque wrench set to 35 ft-lbs every single time, what's your go-to method for setting those?

Gotta ask, is a torque wrench really needed for that? It's just a guide bolt. The old guys ran those machines for years with a regular wrench and a good feel. Overthinking it can slow you down more than a little vibration noise.

Heard the same thing from an old timer at our shop.

So what's the old timer's story? Those guys have seen everything change, makes you wonder what we're missing now.
