I used to check hoistway clearances with a tape measure, but after a job in Tampa where we had to redo the whole setup, I switched to a laser distance finder.

Wait, you had to redo the whole setup? That's brutal. I can't even imagine the time that took, pulling everything out and starting over. What went wrong, was the tape measure just off by a tiny bit that threw everything else off? That's the kind of mistake that gives me nightmares.
