Had a chat with a fire inspector that shifted my view on door hold open devices

He was checking a building in Spokane and pointed out a magnetic hold open on a hoistway door that failed during their test last month. He said, 'Your code compliance is only as good as your weakest link, and that link is often the aftermarket accessory.' It made me double check every non factory part on my current job. How often do you guys test those third party hold opens under actual fault conditions?

It's the same with those cheap phone chargers, they work until they really don't.

Spokane's hoistway door? That's scary. @brown.gavin is right.

That "weakest link" line hits hard. We test them quarterly but honestly, you never really know until it fails.
