Had a building super school me on controller placement logic

I was swapping out an old MCE controller in a 12 story building near downtown and the super comes over, asks why I'm mounting it in the usual spot by the machine room door. He said they've had three mechanics in five years and every one put it somewhere different. Then he showed me this tight corner near the back where the cables run cleaner and the heat vents out better. I've been doing this 8 years and never once thought about airflow like that. Any of you guys ever had a building staffer teach you something that made you rethink your whole setup?

Three mechanics in five years and every one put it somewhere different" sounds like a classic super who's seen it all, but that tight corner sounds like a future headache if you ever need to swap it out in a hurry. Airflow is fine, but I'll take easy access over a cleaner cable run any day.

I mean, I had a custodian at a hospital once show me that the way I was routing a panel was gonna block a filter access they needed to swap out monthly. I've been doing this 12 years and I totally missed it because I was just focused on code clearance. It's humbling when someone who's not even a licensed guy points out something obvious you overlooked. Makes you wonder how many other little things we're all missing just because we're set in our ways.
