A call in Denver last month showed me why you should always check the governor rope tension first.
The car kept overspeeding on the down run, and I wasted an hour on the motor before a senior tech asked if I'd looked at the rope. Has anyone else had a governor issue hide like that?

Terry's right that it can seem like a one-off, but I've seen it more than you'd think. A slack rope won't always throw a clear code, it just lets the car run a bit wild on the down run. That's why it's the first step in the book, saves you chasing ghosts in the motor room. Always start with the simple stuff, even if it feels too basic.

Honestly jessica_hernandez17 is spot on about starting simple. Tbh people forget a slack rope can mess with the encoder count too, not just the down run. I've had cars that would just lose position slowly over a few trips, no hard faults, and it was all rope tension. It's never just one thing acting up.

Seriously, an hour on the motor before checking the rope? I get it's a step you should do, but how often does the governor tension actually cause that big of a problem? Seems like you'd notice other signs first, doesn't it? Maybe it was just a weird one-off thing.
