That's the kind of thing that makes me wonder how many electronics get thrown out just because of dried up paste. A tech YouTuber did a test with toothpaste as a last resort and it actually worked for a few hours in a pinch.

That petroleum jelly story is wild but makes total sense. Most thermal paste is just fancy grease with metal bits in it. Really shows how overcomplicated we make simple fixes sometimes.
