That capacitor drain moment when I realized I was testing backwards for 2 years

I was troubleshooting a power supply board in my garage last month and couldn't figure out why my multimeter kept giving weird readings. Turns out I had been testing capacitors without discharging them first, so I was just measuring stored charge instead of actual circuit values. Has anyone else spent way too long on a basic habit they thought they had down?

Honestly I used to think capacitor testing was straightforward and anyone who messed it up just wasn't paying attention. But after spending three hours chasing a phantom voltage drop on a repaired TV, I had to admit I was the one who needed to slow down. Really changed how I look at the basic stuff I do out of habit.
