Showerthought: a customer's broken radio changed how I see old gear

This guy brought in a 1978 Panasonic boombox, said 'it's not about the sound, it's about my dad's voice on a tape.' I'd been focused on fixing the power switch, but he made me realize we're saving memories, not just circuits. Anyone else have a job that turned into something more personal?

Totally get that. Makes the work feel way more important.

My nephew had that moment last year with a history diorama, kind of like what @kimr10 was saying. He went from just gluing stuff to explaining the whole battle to anyone who would listen. It’s wild how a personal connection turns a task into a mission.

It reminds me of when my kid's school project suddenly clicked for him. That shift in purpose changes everything.
