I thought those cheap thermal pads from Shenzhen were junk, but they saved a laptop

Had a gaming laptop with a fried GPU, a Dell G5 5590, and the only pads I had were some no-name 1.5mm ones I got in a bulk pack. Figured they'd melt, but after a year the temps are still holding under 80C under load. Has anyone else had a good run with off-brand thermal material lately?

My last Shenzhen pad job failed in three months.

But my Shenzhen pads have been solid for over a year now!

Two years on random blue pads from a mixed bag, like holly_walker76 said, is wild. That's the kind of luck you hope for but never expect. My experience lines up with kaid59, where things just fall apart fast. It really does feel like a total lottery with no way to tell which batch will last. You just cross your fingers and hope you don't have to open the console again in a few months.

Man, remember when @kaid59 said his cheap pads failed fast? My buddy had the total opposite happen. He used some random blue 2mm pads from a mixed bag on his old PS4 that sounded like a jet. Thing's been dead quiet for almost two years now, doesn't even hit 70 degrees. Makes you wonder if some of those no-name packs are just luck of the draw.
