Found a whole drawer of 'dead' phones at my local repair shop

The owner in Dayton said people keep bringing in phones with the same simple fix, a bad battery connection that just needs cleaning. He showed me six iPhone 8 models, all with the same issue, that customers thought were totally broken. How many of you see one specific, easy problem over and over?

Read a tech blog post about this exact thing last week. They called it the "iPhone 8 curse" because the battery connector is apparently in a dumb spot that gets gunked up super easy. It's wild how many people probably tossed a perfectly good phone over a two minute fix with some rubbing alcohol. Makes you wonder what other "dead" electronics are just dirty.

Does that mean my toaster's sudden refusal to brown my bagels is probably just a breadcrumb buildup situation? Because I've been giving it the stink eye for a week now, convinced it had some kind of existential crisis. Seriously though, you guys are making me want to crack open every dusty gadget in my house with a q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol. My old laptop that I replaced last year might just be a grimy liar rather than a dead pile of parts.

My old PS4 sounded like a jet engine until I cleaned the dust out of the fan. @miam75, your point about hidden dirt is spot on, it's crazy how often that's the real problem. I bet a ton of "broken" gadgets just need a good cleaning.
