Finally fixed a stubborn Nintendo Switch dock after a trip to the library
I was at the downtown branch yesterday and saw they had a whole DIY repair station with soldering irons and multimeters you can use for free. It gave me the idea to reflow the HDMI controller chip on a dock that's been sitting in my 'maybe' pile for 3 months, and it actually worked. Has anyone else found a public spot with decent gear for quick fixes?

My cousin's library has a 3D printer you can book time on, which is wild to me. I used it to print a replacement battery cover for an old Game Boy. It's cool seeing these places become more like community workshops. Makes you wonder what else they'll add next, maybe even small tool libraries for home stuff.

What about the insurance risk for libraries offering power tools? I'm surprised they can cover members using stuff that could start fires or hurt someone. It shows a huge shift in how they see their role.

That's actually a really cool idea, libraries stepping up like that. My local one just has books and computers, but I'd be there all the time if they had a soldering station. Makes total sense for a community space. Good on you for getting that dock working, those can be a real pain to pin down.
