Changed my mind about ultrasonic cleaners after talking to a guy in Denver

I always thought ultrasonic cleaners were overpriced toys for hobbyists until I spent 20 minutes talking to a repair shop owner in Denver who swore by his. He told me he pulls corroded board connectors from old consoles and gets them working again after a 5 minute cycle with the right solution. Has anyone else seen a real difference in salvage rates after switching to one?

Oh yeah, "the right solution" is doing a LOT of heavy lifting there. I tried one of those cheapo $40 units from Amazon and threw in some old circuit boards from a water damaged Xbox and they came out looking exactly the same, just wetter. I think half the magic is that repair guy probably has some voodoo mixture of chemicals he won't tell anyone about, which is basically just expensive soap. But hey, if it works for him then I guess it's worth it. I'll stick to my toothbrush and praying for now.

Funny you mention the toothbrush method because I used that exact approach on a laptop I spilled coffee on and ended up scrubbing the letters right off the keys. Ended up with a very fancy looking brick that still smelled like a diner. Might have to look into that voodoo soap myself.
