Shoutout to that green wire nut I found in my pouch from 3 jobs ago that actually held better than the new ones
I was finishing up a panel swap in Everett yesterday and grabbed an old wire nut from the bottom of my bag for a 12/3 splice, and it crimped way tighter than the box of 100 I bought at Home Depot last month, anyone else notice the new ones feel looser?

New ones are fine, you're just getting old and sentimental about hardware.

Wait, are we really acting like a wire nut from three jobs ago is somehow better than a brand new one? I mean its a wire nut. It twists on and tightens down. If the new ones feel a little different maybe check your technique or if you left that old one sitting in some moisture or something. The new ones from Home Depot have passed code just fine for years now, so I doubt they suddenly forgot how to make a secure connection. Honestly this feels like one of those things where we overthink it because we had one bad experience and now we blame the whole batch.
