Man I swear that’s how it ALWAYS goes. The real tricks aren’t in the books or YouTube videos, they’re from some crusty guy in his 50s who’s been doing this since before Rome was built. I notice the same thing in SO many trades too. Mechanics have their secret ways to get a bolt loose without breaking it, cooks have their weird little hacks for cutting something right. It’s like every generation tries to write everything down and make it perfect but the tiny useful stuff just gets passed by word of mouth over a cup of coffee. And honestly that’s why I love hanging around the older guys at the shop. They’ll drop some random gem about wire nuts or conduit bending that saves me 20 minutes and my whole day gets better.

Ngl though I gotta push back a little on the crusty guy in his 50s thing. I mean sure there's some truth to it but most of the old timers I've met are closer to 70 or even 80 if they're still kicking around the shop. The 50 year olds these days are basically us with a little more gray hair and back pain. They grew up with YouTube too honestly. The real old school guys are the ones who were doing this stuff before cordless drills were even a thing. That's where the weird little tricks that never made it into any manual come from. So yeah respect to the 50 year olds but the real gold is from the guys who've been at it since before most of us were born.
