Just rewired a 1950s house and the old cloth wire was crumbling in my hands

I started the job in Phoenix about two months ago. The old cloth-covered wiring in the attic was so brittle, I could snap it just by bending it. After we pulled all the new 12-gauge THHN, the owner showed me his power bill. It dropped by almost 40 bucks the first month because of all the hidden shorts we fixed. Has anyone else seen a drop that big just from a rewire?

That's wild. Good catch on those hidden shorts.

Honestly I can't believe they got away with that for so long.
