I think GFCI codes have gone overboard lately.

They cause more nuisance trips than prevent real dangers.

Ugh, totally feel this. They're putting them on basement outlets now where nothing ever gets wet, it's insane. Good idea in theory, but the current rules are just overkill.

Yeah, putting them where nothing ever gets wet is exactly it. I had an inspector fail me for not having one on a bathroom outlet that's literally six feet from the sink and behind a toilet. It's bone dry back there, never even a splash. The rules just don't match real life sometimes.
