I finally bought a Fluke clamp meter after using cheap ones for 5 years

Picked up a Fluke 323 from the supply house last Tuesday for $180. My old Klein one was giving me wild readings on a 3-phase motor call. Turned out the old meter was off by like 8 amps on the highest range. The customer's VFD was actually fine, I just wasted 2 hours chasing a ghost. Anyone else have a cheap meter lie to them and cost time?

Oh man, 8 amps off is pretty rough but honestly a lot of those cheap meters are close enough for most stuff. Sounds like you got unlucky or it was just old and beat up. Unless you're doing really critical work, I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Did you keep that old meter as a backup or toss it after that headache?
