Hit 277 volts with my bare hand last Tuesday after 20 years in the trade

I always thought working hot was fine since I had good reflexes, but one slip on a mislabeled junction box in an old warehouse outside Pittsburgh and I realized I had been playing a stupid game the whole time. Has anyone else had that one mistake that made you change how you approach live work?

Used to tell myself I had fast enough reflexes to pull back before anything bad happened. That mislabeled box story hits close to home, one wrong assumption and you're rewriting your whole safety protocol. Respect for admitting the wake-up call, that kind of mistake sticks with you for good reason.

God, yes. I had this old angle grinder that never kicked back until the day it did. Took a chunk out of my glove and I sat there staring at my hand for five minutes, feeling like an idiot. That "it won't happen to me" mindset is a dangerous thing until it does.
