Had a service call in a 1920s bungalow that turned into a full rewire after I found the original knob and tube spliced with modern Romex using electrical tape.

The homeowner said the lights had been flickering for 'a few years'. Anyone else run into these hidden time bombs?

My buddy bought a house like that, found the same mess behind a light switch. I mean, the whole place was a fire waiting to happen.

But hey, at least the previous owner saved a few bucks on wire nuts.

My friend had a similar scare, @bettywood. He bought a condo and found all the kitchen outlets were just twisted wires shoved into the box with electrical tape. No wire nuts at all, just tape that had dried out and cracked. The home inspector missed it completely. He had to rewire the whole kitchen before he could even move in. It's crazy what people think they can get away with to save a few dollars.
