Tried spraying my own cabinets with a $30 Wagner and it looks like a crime scene

Figured I'd save $1200 by doing the kitchen cabinets myself. Watched like 6 YouTube vids. Got a cheap sprayer from Home Depot. The thing sputtered everywhere, orange peel texture on every door, and I got more paint on my garage floor than the wood. Sanding it all down this weekend to just roll it with a foam roller instead. Anyone else learn this lesson the hard way?

The Wagner sprayers are really hit or miss honestly... I've used a few and they can work fine if you thin the paint right and keep the tip clean. But that orange peel texture you're talking about, that's usually from holding the gun too close or moving too slow. Not saying you did anything wrong, the cheap ones just don't atomize paint the same way. Rolling with a foam roller is smart for a smooth finish but you gotta be careful about bubbles and stippling. Might be worth trying a gravity feed HVLP gun from Harbor Freight next time, they're like $15 and actually spray decent once you practice a little. Just takes some patience to get the hang of it.

Man that sucks. Foam roller is the move for sure.
