That $40 spray foam kit RUINED my basement ceiling

I tried to save cash last month and bought a cheap DIY spray foam kit from a big box store for my basement rim joists in Edmonton. It didn't cure right, dripped everywhere, and now I'm paying a pro $800 to scrape it off and redo it properly. Has anyone else had a nightmare with those budget foam kits in the cold weather?

Oh man, that's brutal. A buddy of mine tried one of those cheap spray foam kits on his garage ceiling in Calgary last February. He said it came out looking like a melted marshmallow that got hit with a snowblower, and he spent a whole weekend chipping it off with a putty knife. His wife still calls that part of the garage the "foam graveyard" whenever anyone goes in there. He told me the cold weather just messes with the chemical reaction big time, and he ended up paying almost as much as you did to get a pro to fix the mess. Honestly, those kits are a total gamble in our climate, especially when it's freezing out.

Did you end up finding drip marks on your floor for weeks too? I felt like a total amateur when I tried a similar spray foam tub from Home Hardware last November and it basically turned into sticky snowflakes all over my workshop. My brother in law still brings it up every Thanksgiving, calling my ceiling the "great foam fiasco".
