I was dead wrong about spray foam insulation for years

For the longest time I thought spray foam was just a gimmick for people with too much money. I figured batts were fine and the whole airtight seal thing was overhyped. Then I helped a buddy insulate his garage last winter and we used closed cell spray foam. The difference was nuts. My 20 year old house with batts hit -15 and the furnace ran nonstop. His garage stayed above freezing with a tiny space heater running a few hours a day. That convinced me to bite the bullet and get spray foam in my attic last fall. It cost me around $1,800 for 600 square feet but my December gas bill dropped by 40 bucks a month. Has anyone else switched from fiberglass to spray foam and seen that kind of difference?

My wallet still hasn't forgiven me for being right about spray foam.

Did you notice the same huge drop in your heating bills too?
