Vent: Mouldy caulk in my shower from 2 years ago

Went to the ReStore on 99 St last weekend to grab some cheap tile for a backsplash. Ended up talking to the old guy running the tool section about how my shower caulk kept turning black after just a few months. He told me to stop using the cheap stuff and try a 100% silicone with a mold blocker. Picked up a tube for $8 and redid the whole thing yesterday, looks way cleaner already. Anyone else dealt with caulk that just won't last up here in Edmonton's humidity?

I read somewhere that the humidity in Edmonton showers is basically a breeding ground for mold, especially with cheaper caulk that isn't fully waterproof. That 100% silicone with the mold blocker is the way to go, I had the same problem in my rental unit for years before a plumber friend told me the same thing (he said the cheap stuff is just acrylic based and soaks up moisture). Also, make sure you're letting it cure for a full 24 hours before getting it wet, I messed up my first silicone job by showering too soon and it all peeled off in a week.

Exactly this. The cheap stuff is basically just glue with fancy packaging. Silicone or nothing for bathrooms.
