Update: Everyone says you need a full vapor barrier under a basement slab in Edmonton, but I skipped it on my garage floor pour last fall and it's still perfect.
I used a 6 mil poly sheet only under the footings and compacted gravel with a proper slope for drainage, saving about $400 and a full day's work, so has anyone else had luck with a modified approach here?

Well, I guess we'll see how that gamble pays off in a few years.

Honestly, that gamble feels like a long shot. The market is already shifting in a way that makes their whole plan look outdated. Betting against the current trends just seems like a bad move.

My buddy Mike tried something similar back in '19 with his restaurant. He bet big on this fancy fusion menu, invested like 80 grand in ingredients and training. Six months later the whole neighborhood wanted something totally different, comfort food basically. He ended up selling his kitchen equipment for pennies on the dollar to pay off loans. I still cringe thinking about it.
