Tried skip watering my lawn for 2 weeks straight

I was debating between sticking with my usual every-other-day sprinkler schedule or just letting the grass go for 14 days. After reading some tips online, I decided to stop watering completely to see if the roots would grow deeper. The lawn went brown and crispy for about 10 days, but after a good rain last Tuesday it bounced back greener than before. Saved about $30 on my water bill too. Has anyone else tried this approach in Edmonton's dry summers?

Yeah I've been doing this for the last 3 summers in Edmonton actually. The first time I tried it I was nervous watching my lawn turn all brown and crispy, but it really does force the roots to go deeper looking for water. My lawn used to need watering every 2 days or it would look sad, now I can go 10-14 days no problem and it stays green after a good soak. Just make sure you water deep when you do water, like leave the sprinkler on for a full hour in one spot so it really penetrates. I saved around $80 over the whole summer last year.

I hear you @jamesm48, that crispy lawn phase is nerve-wracking but it really does pay off in the long run.

Does anyone know if this method works the same on sandy soil vs clay? Seems like it might behave totally different depending on what you're working with.
