That one day last spring when my garage roof project went perfectly... actually no, it rained before I could seal the plywood (and I was honestly glad it happened)
I know everyone loves to brag about a smooth DIY weekend, but my best day was a total disaster. Last April 12th, I spent 8 hours sheathing my detached garage roof solo, got all the OSB down, and then a freak hailstorm hit around 6 PM before I could get the ice and water shield on. All that work and I had to tarp everything up with cheap blue tarps from Canadian Tire, and they ripped at 2 AM. But here's the thing: that storm showed me exactly where my roof framing had a low spot I missed, because water pooled there and soaked through. If I had sealed it that day, I'd have covered up that mistake and had a leaky roof for years. Has anyone else had a frustrating setback that actually saved them from a bigger screw-up later?

Read something similar on a framing forum once. Guy built a deck and used the wrong hangers, but a heavy snow collapse showed him before anyone got hurt. Your story reminded me of that. Sometimes screwing up in the open is better than finding out later when it's hidden. That low spot would have been a nightmare to fix after the shingles were on. Glad you caught it early.

Drove myself crazy last spring trying to level a paver patio by eye, then a week of heavy rain turned it into a shallow pond next to the house foundation. Realized my "level" was actually sloping back toward the basement, so that soggy mess saved me from a much wetter problem down the road. Guess sometimes the universe steps in to point out our dumb mistakes before they cost us even more.
