Made a trip out to the old Strathcona junk yard yesterday

Was hunting for some 2x4s to salvage for a raised bed frame and noticed the place is barely half the size it was 15 years ago. Back in 2009 I could spend 3 hours digging through piles of lumber and scrap metal without repeating an aisle. Now they got maybe 4 racks of wood and a tiny bin for hardware. Guy at the counter said land prices forced them to sell off the back lot. Anyone else notice how hard it is to find good salvage spots around Edmonton these days?

Honestly I used to roll my eyes when people complained about the city shrinking every salvage and scrap yard in town, but you just made me realize how right they were. I remember spending whole Saturday mornings at that Strathcona lot digging through the metal bins and coming out with enough angle iron to last months, and now it sounds like a complete ghost town. Land prices are killing off every place that actually lets you find something useful instead of just selling you brand new box store crap.

Kinda dramatic take on some scrap yards closing.

Wait, only four racks of lumber? That's it?
