Waste of $300 on a basement half-ass job

Hired a guy off Kijiji to drywall my basement. Said he was a pro. He showed up late, left mud bumps everywhere. Took him 3 days to do what should take 1. I paid him $300 cash upfront like an idiot. Never saw him again. Anyone else get burned by a random online contractor?

Honestly I had a similar thing happen with a painter I found on Facebook Marketplace. He quoted me a price then halfway through the job said the paint was more expensive than he thought and tried to charge me extra. I ended up having to finish the trim myself because he left it all splotchy. So yeah the internet is basically a gamble when it comes to finding anyone to do work around the house.

@hannahk19 did you check their other reviews or just go for it based on the price? Kinda feels like they all learn the same scam playbook.
