Told my roofer he was wrong about ice shield. Cost me $1200.
Buddy of mine (works for a roofing company in Spruce Grove) told me I needed full ice and water shield on my whole roof over in Summerside. I thought he was just trying to upsell me so I only did the edges. Now it's feb and I got an ice dam leaking into my front porch. Had to pay a guy $1200 to tear off shingles and fix it. Anyone else get burned by skipping something a contractor recommended?

@hannahk19 nailed it, air leaks make everything worse up there.

oh man that's rough, i feel for you. i did the exact same thing on my last house in edmonton, thought i knew better than the roofer and just did the first 3 feet. lol what a mistake. that ice and water shield is one of those things that seems like a money grab until you're paying someone to rip off frozen shingles midwinter. also check your attic insulation while you're at it, our house had big air leaks around the chimney that made the ice damming way worse.
