The time a homeowner showed me my foundation cracks were from bad grading

Back in 2018 I was on a job in Sherwood Park, old bungalow with some cracks in the basement wall. I was about to just patch them up like I always did. The owner came out, old guy who used to build houses in the 70s, and asked if I checked the slope of the yard first. I hadn't. Walked me around back and showed me how all the rainwater was running toward the foundation instead of away. That simple thing changed how I look at every job now. Anyone else have an old timer save them from doing something half-assed?
