Switched from paper invoices to a tablet on-site this month
Used to hand-write every invoice after a job, then scan them when I got home. Took forever and I lost two last summer. Bought a $40 Toughbook case for my old iPad and now I bill people right in their driveway. Has anyone else made the switch and found a good app that handles deposits?

Man, I started doing the exact same thing last year and it's been a game changer! For deposits, I use Square POS app since it already handles card payments and you can set up a custom invoice that asks for a deposit upfront. You just add a line item for the deposit amount and mark it as required before you send the final invoice. Another tip is to take a picture of the job site or equipment before you start, then attach it to the invoice right in the app so there's no debate later. I also sync everything to Google Drive automatically so I never lose another invoice. Just make sure your iPad battery lasts through a full day of jobs, I carry a small power bank just in case.
