Showerthought: That plumber who told me not to cheap out on pipe fittings was RIGHT

I hired Aaron from Apex Plumbing last year to fix a leaky basement pipe and he insisted I spend $120 on brass fittings instead of the $40 plastic ones I wanted. Six months later my neighbor used plastic ones and his pipe burst flooding his whole utility room. Has anyone else had a contractor push back on your choice and then you later realized they were looking out for you?

Why is the neighbor automatically the victim here? I mean, maybe the neighbor knew this guy was trouble and just didn't care. Or maybe the neighbor is the type who lets things slide and then complains later when it blows up. It's not like you owe your neighbor a heads up if they're the one who picked a sketchy contractor in the first place. I've seen too many situations where people play innocent but they totally knew what they were getting into.

Yeah I feel kind of bad for the neighbor. It's one thing if they really knew what they were signing up for, but most people just see a good deal and don't dig deep enough. Not everyone is going to check backgrounds or look up complaints online before hiring somebody. The neighbor probably just wanted their fence fixed or whatever and got taken for a ride. It's tough to watch someone get burned like that even if they made a dumb choice.
