My guy Pat said his crew charges $150 just to show up and look at a leaky faucet
I overheard Pat at coffee break saying he bills $150 for a service call before he even touches a wrench. That's wild to me because my plumber charges $80 and actually fixes stuff same day. How do you guys handle pricing when clients balk at a call-out fee?

Charge that much because you can. People pay $150 to feel like they're getting a premium service, same as paying $8 for a craft beer when $4 Bud works fine. Your $80 guy sounds like a steal but he's probably not paying for insurance, truck maintenance, or showing up on time either.

Some of these high end guys charge that much because people are paying for the whole experience not just the work. They want someone who acts professional and shows up without looking like they rolled out of bed, and that's worth something too. Plus the $80 guy might be great until he makes a mistake and has no way to fix it.

Wait, are craft beers REALLY $8 now? I'm still seeing $6-7 around here for most of them. But $150 for moving someone's stuff from one place to another? That's a lot of money just to feel fancy about it. The $80 guy probably does pay for truck maintenance and shows up on time, he just doesn't have a fancy website or branded t-shirt to prove it. That whole "you get what you pay for" thing gets thrown around too much without anyone actually checking if the expensive guy is any better at not dropping your TV.
