I don't get the hype around those big foundation repair companies in Edmonton

My house on 124th street settled about 3 inches last spring after all that rain. Every contractor I called quoted me between $12,000 and $15,000 for helical piles. I ended up hiring a smaller guy with just a crew of three for $7,500 and he did the work in 4 days. The big companies said they needed heavy machinery and permits that took weeks. Has anyone else gone with a smaller outfit and gotten better results? What did you pay for foundation work?

Have you looked into what those big companies charge for just the permit fees alone? I heard from a guy at the hardware store that one of them added a $2,000 line item for "city coordination" that basically just paid for one guy to fill out forms.

Always thought you needed the big names for something like foundation work, but after my neighbor's house settled bad on his 1920s place he went with a three man crew and they saved him like four grand compared to the big quotes. They didn't have to wait around either, just showed up with their gear and did the job in three days. Made me realize those big companies just tack on overhead costs for no reason.
