Two days to figure out an outlet cutout, felt like a genius after
Measured the box wrong on a kitchen backsplash in Denver, kept getting this 1/8 inch gap on the top edge. Finally used a scrap piece to template the box and it fit perfect, why did that take me 20 hours of fiddling to realize?

Honestly, the scrap piece trick is a lifesaver but why did it take 20 hours and not like 30 minutes? Were you measuring off the wrong reference point the whole time, like the tile edge instead of the drywall? I've done that where I kept fighting a gap only to realize my tape measure was sitting crooked across a grout line. What exactly were you checking against when you kept coming up 1/8 off, the box ears or the cutout itself?
