That guy who said to pre-fill my screw holes was 100% right

I've been hanging board for about 4 years now. Always just screwed straight into the studs, no pre-drilling, no nothing. Last month I'm doing a big ceiling job in a house in Phoenix and this old timer on the crew named Dave tells me I'm making extra work for myself. He says just take a second to dimple each screw hole first with the driver tip before running the screw in. I laughed it off. Then I tried it on the next sheet because he kept bugging me about it. Damn. No more stripped holes, no more blown out paper. The screws sit perfectly every time. Took me maybe 2 extra seconds per screw but I saved way more time not fighting crooked fasteners. Has anyone else had an old school trick like this that you ignored for years?

Hold up, FOUR YEARS and you never pre-dimpled? Man, that is WILD. Dave really did you a solid on that one, that's a game changer for sure.
