Question about the weight of a full sheet of 5/8 drywall
I was moving some leftover sheets in my garage yesterday and looked up the exact weight online. A 4x8 sheet of 5/8 fire-rated drywall is over 70 pounds. I always knew it was heavy, but seeing that number surprised me. It makes sense why my back feels it after a long day. Do you guys have any good tricks for carrying these sheets up stairs by yourself?

Man, that number hits home. I've carried enough of those sheets to know that 70 pounds feels like a hundred by the second flight. The only trick that ever worked for me was using a moving blanket over my shoulder to keep the edge from digging in. Even then, it's a brutal job.

Blanket over the shoulder is a game changer for sure. @finley729 is right about the soul-leaving part, my knees start singing opera by the third floor. Worst I ever had was a solid wood dresser that felt like it was filled with bricks, almost took out a whole wall on a turn.

Tell me about it, that second flight is where your soul leaves your body. The blanket trick is smart, I used to fold up an old towel the same way. Still felt like someone was trying to sever my collarbone by the top floor. Makes you wonder who decided stairs were a good idea for moving heavy stuff. What was the worst thing you ever had to carry up?
