Question about fiberglass mesh versus paper tape on butt joints
I used paper tape on a whole basement job last month and had to come back to fix three cracks, thinking about switching to fiberglass mesh for the next one, anyone have better luck with one over the other on ceiling joints?

My cousin's neighbor used fiberglass mesh on his whole garage ceiling and told me it was great until he had to patch a light fixture hole six months later. The mesh just kinda floated there while the compound sagged through. I mean, paper tape grabs tighter on those tricky spots. Idk, maybe it's just me but I've had way better luck with paper on ceilings specifically because gravity is already working against you.

Wait, you're telling me paper tape actually holds up better on ceilings? I always figured mesh was the way to go for everything, but that sinking compound thing makes total sense.

Man paper tape is honestly underrated for ceilings, it wicks the moisture from the mud and locks in way tighter than mesh ever could. Mesh just floats and bubbles up if you're not careful, learned that the hard way on a buddy's reno.
