My old boss used to say a 4-inch knife was all you needed, but switching to a 6-inch changed my finish work.
I mean, I used the 4-inch for years on everything, but after trying a 6-inch on a ceiling job last month, the difference in how few lines I had to sand was crazy. Has anyone else made a switch like that and noticed a real difference in their mudding?

All you needed a 4-inch knife?" That's crazy to me too. I started with a 6-inch and tried a 4 once, felt like I was spreading mud with a putty knife. Couldn't get a clean coat at all.

All you needed" a 4-inch knife? That's wild to me.

Remember that time I tried to open a plastic clamshell package with my keys? Ended up using a butter knife from the junk drawer... thing was maybe 3 inches long and it did the job. Makes you realize how little blade you actually need for most dumb stuff around the house. A 4-inch knife sounds like overkill until you're wrestling with that impossible packaging.
