Just found out a 5/8 board weighs close to 70 pounds and nearly dropped one on my foot after carrying it wrong for years
Was reading a safety sheet from CertainTeed last night and it said 5/8 x 4 x 12 is like 68 pounds dry, no wonder my shoulder's been shot after 6 months on this high rise job, has anyone else switched to a drywall lift just for carrying?

My uncle ran a crew that banned anyone from carrying anything heavier than a 1/2 inch board by hand after he threw his back out in 2007. They got a panel hoist and never looked back.

That's the smart way to do it... once you wreck your back on the job it never really heals right, so it's better to just not take the risk at all.

Ngl, I kind of disagree. A lot of guys end up with back problems from carrying light stuff all day in awkward positions, not just heavy panels. Teaching proper lifting technique might be a better move than a blanket ban.
