I think the 4-foot level is way better than a laser for hanging board

Everyone on my crew swears by their lasers for getting that first sheet straight, but I did a whole house in Tacoma last month with just my old 4-foot level. The laser kept getting knocked off its mount and the line would jump, but with the level I could check the studs and the board edge at the same time. It added maybe 5 minutes per room, but the control was way better. Anyone else still using a level for this or am I just old school?

My uncle in Spokane still hangs all his drywall with a 4-foot Stabila.

My grandpa swore by his old 4-foot level too, said it was the only straight edge in his whole shop. He'd use it for everything, even as a guide for cutting linoleum. Makes me wonder if @thomas.parker's uncle has those same old-school habits, like marking studs right on the level with a pencil. You just don't see that kind of tool dedication much anymore.

Sounds like @thomas.parker's uncle has it figured out.
