Green board tape peeling off after 3 months in a bathroom

Ran a remodel in Boise back in June and used regular paper tape on green board near the shower. By last week the tape had lifted in a few spots, seams were showing cracks. I switched to fiberglass mesh with setting compound for the redo, any of you guys use mesh on green board from the start or is paper still the way to go?
