Debate: Old timer told me to stop using mesh tape on corners, said paper is better every time
I was working a job outside Cleveland last week and this guy who's been doing drywall since the 80s goes off on me for using mesh on inside corners. He said paper holds mud better and never bubbles, but I feel like mesh is faster and I've never had a call back. He's got 40 years on me though, so who's right? What do you all use for corners, paper or mesh?

Mesh tape on corners? That's nuts, wait till you peel it off later!

Makes me think of how every old trick ends up being the right one.

Think about why something like mesh tape works better than paper tape in the first place - it's not just about holding the mud. The mesh lets air dry the compound from both sides, so you're not waiting forever for the paper to soak through and bubble up later. That's the part people skip over when they're quick to call old tricks the only way.
