Bought a $90 drywall lift for a basement job and it was a game changer
I had a big basement ceiling to do for a client in Grand Rapids last month and my back was already hurting just thinking about it. I bit the bullet and rented a lift from the local hardware store for three days. It cost me about ninety bucks total. Not only did it save my back, but I got the whole ceiling up by myself in half the time. Anyone have a favorite brand they actually own for smaller jobs?

Renting is the move for sure. @angela416 is right, that's a solid price. I used one for a garage project last year and it was a total back saver. Trying to hold a full sheet up with one hand while you fumble for the drill with the other is a nightmare. The lift just locks it in place and you can take your time. Makes a one person job actually possible.

My uncle did his whole garage ceiling with just a couple of T braces and some scrap wood. Seemed to work fine for him. I get the appeal of a lift but for a one time thing it feels like overkill. That ninety bucks could buy a lot of ibuprofen instead.

Only ninety bucks for a three day rental? That's way cheaper than I would have guessed. My local place charges almost that much for a single day. You got a killer deal.
