Showerthought: Saw a crew working a suction dredge on the Ohio River near Cincinnati last week and the spoil line looked way longer than normal.

They had it running almost 800 feet up the bank to a settling pond. Ever had to run a line that far, and what's your max practical distance before you need a booster pump?

Actually, that spoil line length sounds about right for a big river job... we usually call it a slurry line though. The real limit isn't distance so much as the vertical lift. You can push that slurry a long way on flat ground if your pump is sized right.

So you're the one who keeps clogging the river?

Slurry line is the right term. Vertical lift matters more than distance for clogging.

Doubt it's that serious, jessica_hall49.
