PSA: Dredging without a plan for spoil is just dumping in disguise.

It messes up waterways and costs more in the long run. Do it right or don't do it at all.

Back in 2018, our county dredged a section of the river for flood control. They trucked all that wet sludge to an old quarry site about ten miles away, said it was fine. Two years later, that whole area's groundwater tested crazy high for heavy metals. They're still paying a fortune for cleanup now. Sometimes moving the problem just makes a bigger one.

Wait, they just dumped sludge in an old quarry without checking it first? That's basically handing people a poison drink and calling it water. Contaminated groundwater is no joke, and now everyone pays for that shortcut forever.

Okay but what does "doing it right" actually look like here. Are we talking about tested containment sites, processing it for reuse, or just shipping it somewhere else where it becomes someone else's problem.
