My first foreman told me to never trust a depth gauge over a lead line on the Mississippi.

I thought he was stuck in the past until we hit a buried cable the sonar missed completely. Anyone still use a lead line for a final check on tricky bottoms?

Ever read about how they still use lead lines on the Great Lakes? The tech can get fooled by soft mud, but that old weight hits the real bottom every time.

Trust the old ways sometimes.

Old ways like knowing your neighbors and fixing things instead of throwing them out. But some traditions just held people back for no good reason. It's about keeping the good stuff that builds community, not the rules that kept folks down.

Honestly @gracewebb, "trust the old ways" is a pretty big statement. Which old ways are you talking about, exactly? Tbh a lot of old ways were pretty bad for a lot of people. It feels like we need to pick and choose instead of just trusting all of it.
