Had a mechanic tell me I was running my dredge pump wrong for 8 years
Guy at the Husky in Baton Rouge watched me fuel up and said I should be running 200 RPM lower unless I hit rock. Now I'm wondering how much fuel I burned up on that old Mighty Mite.

Ran my pump wrong for 8 years" sounds like a good description of my whole approach to life.

@derek656 nailed it, that's basically my entire existence right there. I ran a 6-inch suction line wrong for a decade before some old timer set me straight.

You ever figure out how many RPM you were actually running? I've seen this more times than I can count with dredge pumps. The sweet spot is usually way lower than most guys think (like 200-300 RPM under full throttle unless you're chewing through hard material). Running wide open all the time just turns fuel into noise and wears out your pump impeller faster for zero gain in production. That old timer probably saved you more than just fuel money - your pump bearings and seals will thank you too.
