Blew $800 on a used dredge pump that was completely shot

Bought a supposedly rebuilt 6-inch pump off a guy in Baton Rouge and didn't check the wear plates before loading it on my trailer. Has anyone else gotten burned buying used gear from those online marketplace deals?

Man that stings... I got burned real bad on a trackhoe attachment off one of those Louisiana deals. Drove six hours for a hydraulic thumb that was supposed to be "like new" and it was cracked in three places with a bent cylinder rod. Didn't catch it til I got it home in the dark.

@graceblack gotta disagree here. You can't blame the seller for everything. Part of buying used is doing your homework before you hand over cash. Dude in Baton Rouge probably didn't know those wear plates were shot any more than you did. It's on you to check the wear plates before loading it up. Same as checking the hydraulic thumb in the daylight before buying. Seller's just trying to move gear, not babysit you.
